Know More About Event : Recent extreme weather and climate events, exemplified by the recent devastating floods in KwaZulu Natal and some areas of Eastern Cape facing the possibility of running out of water due to a multiyear drought, respectively, highlight the importance for South Africa to invest in developing capacity in weather and climate variability and change as well as oceanographic research. According to the scientific literature, the frequency at which these extreme events occur is likely to increase, thus rendering society and the economy more and more vulnerable to them.
